SAINT PAUL, MINN. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded the East Grand Forks Phase 3 project to, Industrial Contract Services, Inc., of Grand Forks, N.D., Jan. 27.
The project was awarded for $12 million and consists of building 8,500 linear feet of earth levees, 2,000 linear feet of flood walls, two pumping stations and 7,400 linear feet of recreation trail, as well as several gate wells, storm sewers, storm water detention ponds and more. This work is expected to begin in March 2004 and be complete in December 2005. The East Grand Forks Phase 3 project completes the work along the Red Lake River through the Maplewood and Riverview additions.
The Grand Forks/East Grand Forks flood control project consists of building levees and floodwall, forming a ring around the community. The design level of protection is equivalent to the peak discharge experienced during the 1997 flood in this city. Construction of the Grand Forks/East Grand Forks flood control project began in 2000 and is expected to be complete in 2005/early 2006. Total cost of the project is estimated at $393 million.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, serves the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response.
