Assistant Project Manager

Location: Grand Forks, ND

General Purpose:

The assistant project manager is responsible for assisting with overall project planning and scheduling, resource allocation, project accounting, and control, while providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with quality standards. The assistant project manager responsibilities span a broad spectrum, covering all the areas of project management like - Project Planning, Cost Management, Time Management, Quality Management, Contract Administration, and Safety Management.

 

Work Schedule:

45+ hours per week Monday through Friday.

Requirements:

 Recommended Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management or similar field of study

 

Required Experience

  • 1 or more years of experience in construction projects

 

Required Skills/Licenses/Certifications

  • Excellent presentation, verbal, written and people skills
  • Knowledge of legal issues and safety standards is essential
  • Active driver’s license with a driving record representative of a safe driving history
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize a team effort.
  • Capacity to motivate, lead and boost morale of the teams.
  • Effective time management and logical decision-making ability.
  • Capacity to handle pressure.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the construction sites.
  • Strong focus on quality.

Travel Requirement

  • This position may require occasional over-the-road and air travel.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist Project Manager manage projects to ensure that all scopes are completed per industry and job specific standards and to ensure that the work is coordinated as profitably as possible
  • Attends client pre-bid meetings, job showings, and job site visits.
  • Be able to read and understand commercial plans, specs, and details.
  • Assist in obtaining pricing for the development of cost estimates.
  • Assist Superintendent with the implementation of job site safety procedures, notifications, signage, supplies, and equipment.
  • Work with Insurance Coordinator to ensure insurance and bonds are current and accurate.
  • Assist Project Manager in communicating effectively with the owner, coordinating team meetings, completing contract documents, and reviewing consultant and contractor pay applications.
  • Assist Project Manager in verifying submittal conformity to specs.
  • Maintain document controls and distribution to all relevant parties
  • Manage current and accurate logs (with turnaround times*)
  • Support Project Manager in the preparation of daily and monthly reports.
  • Assist in the development of punch lists and the follow-up necessary to ensure timely completion of punch list work.
  • Assist Project Manager in obtaining required permits for the work from governmental agencies and in coordinating required inspections by appropriate inspectors.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist in creating and following a baseline project schedule.
  • Assist in performing quantity takeoffs and surveys to manage contract progress and reporting.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

The overall nature of the position is sedentary in nature requiring little physical effort and occasional light physical exertion. There is occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, temperature changes, industrial noise, and construction hazards usually accompanied by business travel and visits jobsites and clients.
