Shop Manager

Location: Grand Forks, ND

General Purpose:  This position carries authority and responsibility to organize, coordinate, direct, & manage overall operations of our Maintenance/Repair Shop & Yard.  This individual will manage logistics and track inventory of our assets including, but limited to tools, equipment, & materials.    

Requirements:

Required Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.

 

Required Experience

  • Should have the same basic aptitude and interests as those working in the craft, being supervised plus additional reading, writing, math, & communication skills.
  • Knowledge of small, medium, and heavy equipment operation, maintenance, service, & repairs.
  • Knowledge of all types of construction equipment, tools, & materials.

 

Required Skills/Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles.
  • Ability to estimate
  • Must possess strong communication and management skills
  • Computer skills
    • Microsoft office (word, excel, outlook)
    • Complete timecards and daily reports
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
  • Ability to calculate figures and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Proficient in one or more craft areas
  • Ability to work well under pressure and work within timelines
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Directly supervise & coordinate activities for shop & tool watch personnel.  Includes coordination of equipment rentals, such as concrete pump trucks/cranes/etc.
  • Manage Company Owned Equipment Fleet
    • Logistics/Tracking/Inventory/Needs
    • CapEx & Disposal Plans
    • Lifecycle Analysis
    • Asset Utilization Analysis
  • Manage Rental Equipment Fleet
    • Manage/Scheduling/Quotes/Rates/Etc.
  • Manage Tools & Small Equipment
    • Logistics/Tracking/Inventory/Needs
    • Lifecycle Analysis
    • Asset Utilization Analysis
  • Schedule Maintenance & Safety Inspections.  Ensure all tools & equipment that leave the yard are in good working order and compliant with all rules & regulations.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers & Site Superintendents for project specific equipment/tool needs, project specific material deliveries, & Mob/Demob activities.
  • Keep Shop, Storage Buildings, & Yard spaces clean & well organized.
  • Responsible for all necessary documentation, tracking, reporting, and record keeping in a neat, well-organized format.
  • Create & manage yearly shop/tool watch related business plans and budgets.
  • Make key decisions in a well, thought-out manner.
  • Manage and ensure that ICS in in compliance with all State & Federal regulations – including, but not limited to DOT/CDL regulations, IFTA/IRP reporting, and operator certifications.
  • Use and maintain schedules to measure time and production to meet requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form to employees and management, including rewarding & disciplining as needed throughout the shop.
  • Carryout supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct report.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Oversee all shop, tools, watch employees, including but not limited to mechanics, truck drivers, pump truck operators, crane operators, warehouse, & other employees. 
  • Directly supervise up to 10 plus non-supervisory employees.
  • Carryout supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees’ addressing complaints and resolving problems
